BK Jekabpils is missing their shooter K. Miglinieks, and his playing time is covered by O. Virsis who is shooting 11.1% (0,1/0,7) from 3 pt line, in 13 games, averaging 20 minutes in Latvian Basketball league and 20% (0,1/0,6) in BBL, 25 minutes average. After watching these stats it's clear, that you can help off him, and let him take that shot.
Modestas Kumpys is another player, that should'nt get all the attention on perimiter. You should'nt close out on him very aggresively, only if you want your center to be dunked on.
And Pavels Veselovs, big guy, who is playing a lot on the perimiter, but his shooting is 0,1/0,9 - 9% from 3 pt line.
In this video we see, how captain E. Jeromanovs, plays against Virsis, leaves him wide open, even when he is standing ball side on the drive. And Virsis didn't even think about shooting, instead he drove to the basket. Also important in this sequence is that, Virsis was open for a lot of time, but PG Larson didn't trust in his shot. Good defense by Jurmala!
Another play where they helped off him, was on top pick and roll, where Duselis got the pocket pass, and had to decide shoot, pass to big under the basket, or out in the corner. Jeromanovs again helped from Virsis, and Duselis saw a mistake from defense, passed it back to Larson, who made his shot. Also good defense, but Jurmala #21 Roberts, has to be on the same page with Jeromanovs, and should've denied pass back to Larson.
Last play that I will show You is, how they helped off Veselovs. Larson was driving to the basket and normaly the help would come from the man, who's guarding corner player. Smits recognized, that he is guarding Veselovs and went for a help, Larson passed it to him, and all team Jurmala sagged off of him, Jeromanovs, guarding closest player Sirsnins, normally would have faked close out and recover to his man, meanwhile Smits would recover, but they made Veselovs to shoot.
Duselis had a foul trouble, but if he would managed to stay on the floor, maybe Jekabpils would have played better, because he is better threat on perimiter than Veselovs.
This was pretty much story of this game, helping a lot from the worst shooters of a team, making them to play instead of best scorers. Also Jekabpils missed Silavs, who is a big threat on the perimiter, and he would spread the floor, playing in the spot of Virsis. Jekabpils has to get their shooters healthy, and they will get back on their winning streak!
